If you missed the Texas Confederation of Clubs 1st Ever State Meeting, Rally and Monsoon at the J. Loraine Ghost Town this last weekend you missed one incredible experience!
Tornado Paul, ACOC V-Chair and Texas Defender Unit Commander, Rally Coordinator and who actually does have a real job, setup the site on Thursday and by Friday afternoon everything was running as smooth as could be. There were vendors, lots of food and some great rock & Roll right up to about 9:30pm Friday night when “It” hit. “It” being one of the wildest rain & wind storms we’ve seen in these parts and we’ve seen some hellacious storms. First it rained from north to south and then south to north and then when it couldn’t make up its wet mind it rained straight down! We’d had some warning so everyone was hunkered down and for the most part we all stayed dried but after the imperfect storm passed the ghost town turned into a wild west town from the mid-1800s. Thar’ were folks pushing scooters through downtown and fallin’ off into the mud while laughin’ the whole way down and on the other end of town was some wild whoopin’ and hollerin’ and all through the night hee-hawin’ could be heard about every 17, maybe 18 minutes. We survived and the party went on into the wee wet mornin’ hours of April 26th.
Saturday saw things tryin’ to dry up, vendors settin’ their booths up and the G & M catering, who did a fantastic job of feedin’ everyone, was busy stockin’ up for the day. Hay was thrown down on most mud holes and we watched as this little ghost town was transformed from a swimming pool to a bustling frontier town of freedom. All the while music was playing and folks were enjoying the excitement of meeting new folks and visiting with old friends. And they started rollin’ in and in and in. Thar’ were motorcycles and cars lined up by the railroad tracks as far as the eye could see. Clubs and independents ridin’ in from El Paso to Beaumont to Wichita Falls to Laredo to one gal from Canada (I didn’t even know there was a Canada, Texas!) were all showing up determined not to miss this moment in Texas Motorcycle History. And they were not disappointed!
Saturday, the 26th of April 2008, the First Ever Texas COC State Meeting was called to order by the ACOC Chairman, Leathernecks Matt. After a welcoming of attending dignitaries the pledge of allegiance was recited by all and the meeting was under way. Tornado Paul, who’s voice was horse from everything he’s been doing for the last two months to get ready for this event, gave thanks to all for showing up and expressed his gratitude to the vendors and to George Richards, owner of the J. Loraine Ghost Town (www.ghosttownaustin.com). After TPaul I got up and said a few words to all the men and women who have volunteered to represent their clubs, associations and groups as Texas Defenders. Best dang folks in Texas! It was my pleasure to introduce the attending Texas Defenders Commanding Officers and our Texas State Secretary of C.O.I.R. (Coalition of Independent Riders) and my friend and brother Suds. As a people, a community, we are learning how to speak with one heart, one voice, and that voice will be heard loud and clear from any point in Texas clear to the Capitol in the Washington DC. After my speech it was my great pleasure to introduce the Texas Confederation of Clubs State Chairman and Father of the Texas Defenders, Bandido Gimmi Jimmy.
Chairman Bandido Gimmi Jimmy told the crowd how proud he was of them and how so very far the TCOC and Texas Defenders have come in a short time. Jimmy expressed his hope that everyone who could hear his voice would spread the word that together we can make a difference when it comes to protecting our rights and civil liberties and how that everyone who wanted to live this biker lifestyle should be able to do so without fear of discrimination or incarceration and do so with our heads held high. Jimmy said some things that you had to have ears on yer heart to hear, things that went straight to the bone and settled there.
After Jimmy our attorney and AIM of Texas Lawyer, William “Bill” Smith, addressed the assembled throng and spoke of the importance of learning our rights and being able to defend those rights.
Then there was the BIG KID, ROCA Big Kid that is who has been workin’ very hard to make the NCOM in Houston, happen’ weekend after next (May 9-11) the best NCOM Convention yet and how he expects every biker in Texas and surrounding states to be thar’! Don’t know if you’ve had the opportunity to hear the Big Kid speak but you could light a medium size town with the energy he throws off. Big Kid told us of all the plans that have been made for this year’s NCOM Convention and it sounds like more fun than politics which is fine by me! If ya’all have any questions about this year’s NCOM you can most likely get em’ answered by email the Big Kid at stateliaison@coctexas.org.
Leathernecks Matt closed the meeting out and Chaplin Rick gave a moment of silence to remember all those who have falling while serving and to our men and women in uniform who are in harms way followed by an inspiring speech. After the meeting some awards were presented and those folks what didn’t leave resumed partying as only bikers can.
I want to extend a big thanks Marcia “Road Runner”, our TCOC Director of Membership, and ROCA Chino, our TCOC Web Master, for coming down and to Clem, the ACOC Independent Representative, and all the men and women who worked so hard manning the Texas Defenders Booth during the event. Thank you all and everyone else who helped make this First Ever the wonderful success it was…………..

Alright then,
This coming weekend of April 25-27 will be the First Ever Texas COC State Meeting/Rally/Party being held at the J. Lorraine Ghost Town (www.ghosttownaustin.com) in Manor just due east of Austin.
Couple of things;
There are no more rooms available at the Quality Inn in Manor. I called and they said something about a biker rally has em' all booked. (Dang biker rallies!) There’s rooms in Austin and hwy 290E which ain’t that far away. Better yet, bring yer tent and bedroll, it’s free campin’!
Downtown Manor is home to Ramos, a great little Mexican restaurant and Gino’s Pizza which serves up a pretty damn good pie. Also, up on hwy 290E, is the Café 290 which is one of the 1st Evers sponsors and home to waitresses Sandy and Pat who haven’t let me get away with nothin' for 20 years now. The 290 serves up a great megas breakfast, has a buffet for lunch and excellent chicken fried steak dinner. (Tell em’ you know me and they’ll add an additional 10% to yer bill for free).
Manor is also home to Police Chief Snyder and his officers. As far as cops go their pretty decent and friendly and will most likely smile while writing you a ticket. In downtown Manor the speed limit is 35mph. Likewise on the DWI, don’t do it! Stay at the ghost town or where ever you are till you sober up. Ask yerself, if I was a cop would I arrest me? And if you find yerself asking yerself that fool question stay put, it just ain’t worth it!
The men and woman (ain’t but one) of the Austin COC Officers Staff have worked their collective butts off to make sure this is going to be one historical event you won’t soon forget. We got knife throwing exhibitions, bike contests, roller derby gals, lots of music and vendors and uh, oh yeah, a state COC meetin’ that starts at 5pm Saturday evening. So plan on letting yer hair down, you gals too, and experience the FIRST EVER TEXAS CONFEDERATON OF CLUBS MEETING……….
If yer coming from West, North or Central Texas take hwy 290E out of Austin like yer heading to Houston. About 6 or 9 miles out of Austin you’ll come to Manor. Keep going straight on 290E for a few miles till you come to the blinking light which will be Old Kimbro Road. Go right (if you go left you’ll end up on the Tee Time golf range which can be fun and painful at the same time) and follow the rally signs. If you hit Houston yer lost big time! If yer coming from out east take 290E like you were going to Austin, you’ll see the signs!

----------------------------------------------
Texas Defenders Activists Group Organized
The emerging Texas Defenders organization has hit the ground running in El Paso as it has in other areas of Texas since its creation in Austin as a branch of the National Coalition Of Motorcyclist.
The organizations goal is to bring together motorcycle enthusiasts from all sections of Texas to contact the many government agencies and personalities responsible for regulations and representation of the States 300,000 plus motorcycle enthusiasts, while also providing manpower and support for local and State emergencies. Defender manpower is available for things such as Amber Alerts and natural disaster relief. Wherever extra hands are needed Defenders will be there.
Local and State officials and entities are contacted through letter writing campaigns expressing a united stance on issues pertinent to Texas riders. Many of the issues addressed by Texas motorcycle activists overlap and affect other areas of Texas society, bringing extra support from untapped resources into the effort for quality representation and benefits for all.
The Texas Defenders are organized in the various regions of Texas with military style of “chain of command” responsibilities. Once the organization realizes a need for contact action or relief efforts, the word is spread throughout the state, where each area Commander calls upon his members to begin addressing a particular issue. Each commander and his membership join with affiliated units around the state bringing thousands of volunteer hands for immediate action or written requests for attention to each issue.
One of the keys to the success of this movement is the reality of motorcycle riders being politically and socially active in all aspects of Texas government and lifestyles. Motorcyclists, whether in organized clubs, associations or independent riders regularly participate in civic causes and they vote. The percentage of riders who actively cast ballots is second only to the “gray voter” lobby. Those people who have worked all their lives and are mostly retired or semi-retired.
The letter writing campaigns are not a new phenomenon, there have been so called “grass root” style efforts since the first time a show of hands vote was taken by people desiring a say in their society. The difference here is the effective communication between separate sections of Texas voters united to effect changes in their representation.
The disaster relief efforts are a new concept in civic responsibility, with local governments becoming financially strapped; a new approach is needed to aid Texas residents with available manpower on short notice.
The Texas Defenders are an all-volunteer organization united to address deficiencies in the treatment and support of all Texans. There are no fees or dues involved in membership, simply a desire to be heard over the chaos of today’s political arena and the ability and desire to aid Texas residents.
The Texas Defender organization encourages all Texans to unite with us in securing the representation and protection promised to each of us by the Texas Constitution.

(Remember the Alamo and the 1st Ever COC State meeting end of this month)
This last Sunday we had one-hell-of-a Austin COC meeting at the Austin Motorcycle Community Service Center. With standing room only the ACOC Officers carried on the business of the TCOC as well as I have ever seen it done and I've been watchin' them for some 10 years or more! New clubs were signed up, old business addressed and talk of the upcoming 1st Ever Texas State COC Rally (April 25-27) and NCOM in Houston in May. More information on these events, including maps, can be found on the site. Several more clubs stepped forward to sign up their Texas Defenders and a great time was had by all. The raw energy and enthusiasm flowing in that room could have run a train from Beaumont to El Paso and back again!
So a big round of applause for the ACOC Chairman, Leatherneck Matt, the Vice Chair and ACOC Texas Defenders Unit Commander, Tornado Paul, the ACOC Secretary/treasurer, Gypsy ScubaSteve and the ACOC Chaplain, Bikers for Christ Revern Rick.
Bill Smith, our AIM Attorney was on hand as well as the TCOC State Treasurer and V/C BamBam, State Liaison Officer Big Kid and me, TCOC Secretary of Defense.
Also on hand was the ACOC C.O.I.R. (Coalition of Independent Riders) Representative Clem who fielded many questions and signed up a dozen independents. Independents that have been waiting a long time for something like the C.O.I.R. so they to could get involved in our movement.
TMRA addressed the crowd and we have invited representatives from Texas ABATE and the Texas Motorcycle Roadriders Association to be at our ACOC and SA/COC meetings in the future. As important as these motorcycle rights organizations are there is nothing more important than protecting our rights and civil liberties, something we should never leave for someone else to do.
TEXAS DEFENDERS NEWS:
As reported several weeks ago our Texas State COC Chairman, Bandido Gimmi Jimmy, and I traveled to El Paso and inducted the El Paso COC’s Texas Defenders unit. Next we traveled up to a fantastic meeting in DFW and inducted some 70 strong men and women who now represent their clubs as Texas defenders.
On April 12th we will be inducting the San Antonio Texas Defenders unit followed shortly afterwards by Tyler and Beaumont’s units. In a very short time the Texas Defenders movement has become a moving force of not just a matter of politics, but as equally important a matter of truth, honor and dignity.
Who we are:
The Texas Defenders is a grass roots movement of “Texas Citizen Biker” manpower within the Texas Confederation of Clubs and Independents.
Mission:
The mission of the Texas Defenders include supporting political campaigns identified as falling within the TCOC agenda with the manpower to implement a Call-to-Action. The Texas Defenders also stand at the ready to assist their local communities in a civil service call for assistance as in the case of tornado or flood damage.
God bless the men and women who have stood up for justice and the American way of life as a Texas Defender for yours will be the glory and honor of serving your state and fellow biker.

FAQA Ya'all!
Q. Can you be a member/supporter of the Texas Defenders and still be a member of a motorcycle rights or other organizations (MRO)?
A. The short answer is hell YES! The Texas Defenders program is a grass roots movement of manpower, citizen biker manpower! We will support MROs campaigns that fit within the TCOC agenda with the manpower to implement a “Call-to-Action” such as a letter writing campaigns or whatever the action is called for. The Texas Defenders also stand ready to help in local emergency situations like floods, tornados and even Amber Alerts.
The Texas Defenders is not a club or an organization but rather an affiliation of M/C members and Coalition of Independent Riders (C.O.I.R) who represent their club or group. There are no dues or mandatory anything and our Texas Defenders are welcomed to join any organization that operates within the rules and laws of the Constitution of these United States and doesn’t show the Texas Defenders in bad light. I belong to TMRA (not to be confused with TMRA II) and Texas ABATE and our TCOC Independent Representative, Suds, belongs to most all of the state and national MROs and some organizations I’ve never heard of!
Q. Is it the intent of the Texas Defenders program to draw members or funding away from any state or national MRO?
A. No and in fact nothing could be further from the truth! The Texas Defenders program has representatives from both the TMRA and TEXAS ABATE who act as liaison between the Texas Defenders and their MRO and other representatives are stepping up. We look to these MRO representatives to keep the Texas Defenders up-dated on all state and national issues that face the Texas motorcycling communities and to inform us of any “Call-to-Action” that they may implement and want the Texas Defenders to support. Being able to provide these rights organizations with manpower and funding frees them up to concentrate on political issues that concern all motorcyclists. According to one MRO rep, “The Texas Defenders program is the best thing that has happened to MROs in a long time. Being held accountable is making us a better, more focused, MRO and we are looking forward to working with the Texas Defenders for a long time to come.”

Ya'all,
We just returned from an outstanding trip to El Paso (Can you say "way the hell out thar'"?). Our State Chairman and I made the El Paso COC meeting this last Thursday and was blown away! The meeting was extremly well organize, well represented by the El Paso M/Cs and followed an agenda that included all topics of concern to bikers; local, state and national issues.
BGJ and I had been invited out to El Paso to give a presentation on the Texas Defenders program which we did. Not only was the Texas Defenders program met with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm but when we left that evening El Paso's COC Unit of Texas Defenders had been inducted and is ready to serve the cause of freedom......Out of freakin’ sight!
Viva El Paso's Texas Defenders.....

To Jimmy and Casey,
Was in attendance last night at Gabriel's. Wanted to thank Jimmy in a more personal way since I didn't get up to see him in person and shake his hand before other's excitement had me button holed for a time. And, of course had a good chat with Casey.
In general, thanks for your efforts, courage, vision and hard work. I've been on the road going from meeting to meeting before and I know it may look easy and sort of fun, it really isn't MOST of the time.
You guys really got my ol' lady fired up last night, and she's up for a ride clear out there to see you guys. I'm thinking perhaps like a day or so BEFORE the State Rally that starts last weekend in April. Looking forward to hearing back from you on any or all of this. Patch-S.W.D.R.
